This
is a bit of an experiment and might have to be modified in the light
of experience. However, I now have an abbreviated version of this
website suitable for downloading to any web-enabled mobile phone. [Please
note that at present it only deals with Sky boxes, not Freesat.]
Simply
key in the following address to your Web Options screen, and the page
shown below will be downloaded. It's only 3Kb so will only cost a few
pence to download, and it might just save your life on site if you've
forgotten to print off the main page before leaving home! (Note that
if you bookmark the page on your mobile, it might be listed as
http://homepage.ntlworld.com. Don't worry, it's the right page.)
There is also an optional link to
information on compass bearings to the satellite for every country in
Europe on the mobile phone website, linked from the following main
page.
I'm
always looking for ways to improve the website, so if you have any
comments about this service or any other part of the site, please
write
and tell me.

Satellite
For Caravans
On your Sky remote, press Services,
4, 6
to get the Signal Test screen.
The Network ID
and Transport Stream
readings will be 0000.
Point your dish to the east with the rim of the dish roughly
vertical and in a series of slow stop-start movements turn the
dish southwards. If the Network and Transport digits change to
0002 and 07d4,
you have a signal. Carefully adjust the dish to raise the
Signal Quality bar as far as it will
go and press the Sky button to return to the main screen.
If the digits don't change, try altering the dish elevation
slightly, turn the dish to the east again, and try again.
If the digits change but to a value other than
0002, you've found the wrong
satellite system. Unplug the digibox for 30 seconds, turn the dish
a few degrees eastwards away from that beam and then switch the
digibox back on again.
If you wish to use a signal meter, follow the instructions for
connecting it to the dish, turn the digibox to the
Signal Test screen as indicated
above, and then turn the dish whilst watching, or listening to,
the meter. At the highest signal indication, check the
Signal Test screen. The meter might
find Astra 1 or
Hotbird instead of
Astra 2, so make sure the Network ID
is 0002.
In southern Europe, you might have to change the default
transponder. On the remote, press Services
and 4. Now press
01 (both digits) and then
Select. Choose Default
Transponder and key in 12129,
go to Save New Settings and press
Select. Now proceed with the dish as
above. |
